Add zest to your life

Last week, I organised my first session of my online group coaching workshop 'Know your strengths and use them to achieve your goals'.

Knowing what gives you strength - what energises , makes you thrive and feel authentic is vital certainly especially during times of transition.

Your strengths help you to

  • face life’s challenges,

  • work toward goals, and

  • feel more fulfilled both personally and professionally.

One of the essential ingredients you need when going through transition is courage which draws on strengths such as bravery, perseverance, honesty and zest.

  • You need bravery to face the challenges ahead.

  • You need honesty with yourself and others to take accountability and responsibility for your action.

  • You need perseverance not to give up because transition does not happen overnight.

But about zest?

At first, the word might make you think of grated lemon or orange peel — something that gives your dish an extra kick! In psychology, zest does exactly that for life.

According to the Via Institute, zest means approaching life, with excitement and energy, not approaching tasks or activities halfway or halfheartedly. It is seeing life with positivity, as an adventure and to be excited to get up every morning. Zest has the strongest link to overall life satisfaction.

Some people are naturally excited while others need to make an extra effort.

So how to build zest?

  • Set clear intentions for your day.

  • Plan a pleasurable activity daily and savour it.

  • Celebrate your wins.

  • Try something new to add spice to your routine.

  • Surround yourself with people who radiate zest and bring positive energy.

And finally - do not take yourself too seriously!
